Who we are

Trelleborg is a world leader in engineered polymer solutions for almost every industry in the world. And we are where we are because our talents brought us here. At Trelleborg Marine & Infrastructure, we go beyond service, building lasting partnerships with engineers, contractors, and owners to deliver long-term solutions that make a real impact.

About the Role

The Application Engineer is a customer-facing technical specialist responsible for analysing client requirements, defining suitable solutions, and preparing accurate estimations and quotations. You will act as the primary technical interface between the Sales Team and the Design Engineers, ensuring clarity, feasibility and quality for all customer enquiries, from standard configurations through to engineered-to-order (ETO) opportunities. You will ensure that all technical inputs required for quotations, costing, and early project scoping are delivered efficiently. While not responsible for producing full engineering designs or detailed CAD models, you must accurately interpret technical drawings and coordinate closely with Design Engineers to enable smooth handovers for new or custom products. Your role is essential for driving business growth by delivering technically sound, commercially competitive proposals while supporting customer satisfaction and cross-functional collaboration

About your responsibilities

  • Technical Consultation & Pre-Sales Support
    • Provide expert technical guidance to customers and internal teams, interpreting drawings, specifications, and site requirements to recommend suitable solutions and explain product capabilities.
  • Estimation & Quotation Preparation
    • Prepare accurate cost estimates and quotations for standard and documented nonstandard configurations. Review customer requirements to define production mode and documentation needs, and coordinate with Design Engineering on Engineer-To-Order (ETO) enquiries to scope technical inputs (without performing detailed design).
  • Pre-Quote Deliverables
    • Produce essential pre-sales documentation including General Arrangement drawings, functional specifications, datasheets, and other supporting materials. Engage Design Engineers when detailed 2D/3D CAD or product development is required. Produce CAD drawings to support the adaptation of existing product offerings to customer requirements.
  • Sales & Customer Interface
    • Support Business Development Managers / Sales Managers with technical insights and solution recommendations, participate in customer meetings and tender activities, and provide ongoing technical support throughout the pre-order cycle.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination & Market Insight
    • Serve as the technical link between Sales, Design Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain, ensuring clear, aligned, and accurate technical information. Maintain strong product and process understanding and monitor industry trends to inform opportunities and strengthen proposals.

What you bring

  • Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Mechanical, Civil or related Engineering field preferred.
  • 2-3 years in a technical-commercial role (Sales Engineer, Application Engineer, Sales Manager) within an engineering/manufacturing setting; polymer industry experience (≥1 year) desirable.
  • A good understanding and demonstrative experience in engineering
  • Experience generating quotations, cost estimates, or technical proposals within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings; competency in CAD is essential for drawings to support the adaptation of existing product offerings to customer requirements but no advanced design engineering expected.
  • Demonstrated success in contributing to sales growth, understanding customer requirements, and providing effective technical solutions.

Competencies we value

  • Technical & Analytical Skills
    • Strong technical understanding of engineering principles and product applications.
    • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
    • Analytical, logical, and detail-driven.
  • Commercial Acumen
    • Understanding of pricing structures, margins, and commercial implications.
    • Ability to build customer value propositions through technical justification.
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Able to work across departments and act as the link between sales and engineering.
  • Organisational Capability
    • Strong prioritisation and time-management across multiple simultaneous enquiries.
    • Structured approach to document control, quotation consistency, and follow-up.

Our Offer and Benefits

  • A responsible and results-oriented task in an internationally active industrial company
  • We provide an encouraging environment offering growth within the company while investing in your training/education
  • Family and congenial working atmosphere with modern equipment
  • Very attractive competitive compensation package
  • Generous annual leave
  • Social and charity events participation
  • Flexible working environment with hybrid structure
