About the Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for an Project Engineer (Automation & Controls) who can take the lead on industrial control systems and automation across our Bridgwater site.  If you enjoy being the go‑to expert, solving complex technical challenges, and delivering automation projects that make a real impact, this role offers an exciting opportunity to advance your career. You’ll work hands‑on with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, data acquisition systems and automated equipment, while collaborating with skilled engineers, production teams and external automation partners. If you bring strong engineering fundamentals, experience in automation and industrial controls, and the drive to improve processes and equipment performance, we’d love to hear from you.

Education and Experience

  • HNC / HND in the relevant engineering / electrical engineering discipline (or equivalent).
  • Experience in automation and manufacturing environment, with exposure to automation and process improvement.
  • Proficiency in a variety of PLC & HMI programming and industrial control systems (required - Siemens, Mitsubishi etc).
  • Preferred 5 years of experience in an engineering & manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in programming and integrating industrial robotics (ABB, Kawasaki, etc).
  • Experience in control panel wiring and control devices.
  • Experience in integration and support of OEE and data acquisition monitoring system.
  • Experience and understanding of product manufacture on CNC machines and machining centres (not CNC programming).
  • Experience with CAD (Autodesk & Solid works etc).
  • Experience in safety of machinery and working to safety standards including EN 13849.

  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical ability, with a practical, hands‑on approach.
  • Clear and confident communication, able to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively across engineering, production and maintenance teams.
  • A solid understanding of mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Project planning skills, with the discipline to meet deadlines and deliver results.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
  • A proactive safety‑first mindset.
  • Strong IT capability, including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and MS Project.
  • The ability to document engineering evidence with clarity and accuracy.
  • A goal‑oriented attitude, motivated to deliver what is needed, when it is needed.

Geography cover and Travel Requirements

  • Based on site at Bridgwater.
  • Travel as required within the UK. International travel may be required for training and infrequently to visit suppliers or other Trelleborg sites.
  • Must have proof of right to work in the UK.

This position is based on-site at Bridgwater. Trelleborg must ensure that anyone we’re looking to employ is legally allowed to work in the UK before their employment begins.
