Here at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, in Rotherham, we are proud to manufacture Orkot® bearings and wear rings. Orkot® is the world's leading brand in composite bearing material for wear resistant bearings under high load. With over 60 years’ experience in composite bearings, our Rotherham facility provides a full service, from engineering concept to delivery of a bearing solution for specialist markets such as marine, hydro & tidal power.

We have a full time, vacancy for a Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Advisor at our Centre of excellence site in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Hours of work

The hours of working Monday to Thursday 8.30am until 5pm and Friday 9am until 12pm (38 hours per week) – flexi time is available.


What be you’ll doing?

Your role is essential to our organization. Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Advisor, you will be responsible for promoting and maintaining high standards of Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) performance across the organization. This role ensures compliance with UK legislation, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards, and internal policies while driving continuous improvement in safety culture and sustainability. In addition, you will:

  • Provide expert advice on Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) compliance with UK legislation, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and internal policies.
  • Contribute to site-wide initiatives toward Net Zero and corporate sustainability goals.
  • Conduct risk assessments, COSHH reviews, safe systems of work, and workplace inspections.
  • Lead accident/incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
  • Deliver SHE training, toolbox talks, and promote behavioural safety culture.
  • Monitor and report SHE performance metrics (near misses, audits, incidents, training compliance).
  • Manage emergency preparedness, fire safety checks, first-aid arrangements, contractor control, and permit-to-work processes.
  • Champion environmental protection and sustainability initiatives, including carbon-reduction and waste minimisation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and manage monitoring of emissions, waste, energy usage, and chemical storage.
  • Maintain Environmental Aspects & Impacts Register and track ESG/sustainability KPIs.
  • Support internal/external audits and maintain SHE documentation, policies, and records.
  • Close out non-conformances and assist with regulatory reporting and consents.
  • Prepare clear communication materials (alerts, bulletins, updates) and coach managers/employees to improve SHE culture.
  • Identify opportunities for risk reduction, compliance improvement, and environmental performance enhancement.


What we need from you?

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential:

  • A NEBOSH General Certificate (or working towards equivalent qualification).
  • Previous experience of creating or running initiatives focused on Net Zero and corporate sustainability goals
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and environmental regulations.
  • Practical experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • A proven ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels.

Desirable:

  • IEMA qualification (Foundation or Practitioner) or equivalent sustainability expertise.
  • Experience delivering energy, waste, or carbon-reduction projects.
  • Knowledge of ESG reporting, lifecycle assessments, or sustainable procurement.
  • Internal auditing experience or risk-based auditing qualifications.

  • Communication Skills – Clear and persuasive verbal and written communication for training, reporting, and influencing stakeholders.
  • Negotiation Skills – Ability to influence and gain buy-in for safety and sustainability initiatives.
  • Coaching & Training Delivery – Competence in delivering engaging SHE training and coaching managers/employees.
  • Regulatory Compliance – Understanding and applying UK H&S legislation, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and environmental regulations.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting – Ability to interpret SHE performance metrics and sustainability KPIs.
  • Project Management – Planning and executing improvement projects, audits, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Auditing Skills – Conducting internal audits and supporting external compliance reviews.
  • Emergency Preparedness – Managing fire safety, first aid, and emergency response plans.
  • Environmental Management – Competence in waste management, emissions monitoring, and carbon-reduction strategies.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset – Driving initiatives for risk reduction and sustainability performance.
  • IT & Digital Skills – Proficiency in MS Office and SHE management systems for documentation and reporting.
  • Influencing & Leadership – Ability to lead cultural change and promote positive SHE behaviors.
