We work with consultants and end users on a project-by-project basis to determine best-fit solutions and supply fully integrated systems to fulfill even the most demanding specifications. Trelleborg Westbury Limited manufacture and supply Breakaway Couplings, KLAW LNG Transfer Systems and associated equipment for the safe transfer of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in the Oil, Gas and Petro-Chemical Industries.

About the job:

The Design Engineer is a key role, who provides technical competency, experience, and product knowledge to the growing engineering team. Taking a lead role via design reviews and peer checking / support to ensure that company processes are adhered to and that the development of specifications, concept models and engineering drawings / documentation utilize proven engineering principals. You will report to the Technical Director. The main office & production facility is based in Westbury, Wiltshire, UK.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Design and development of new and existing products.
  • Produce technical documents / reports (utilising simulation software where applicable): FEA, CFD, DFMEA, Mechanical properties calculations and input into Installation & Operation Manuals.
  • With the highest motivation take ownership & responsibility to drive projects in a methodical and timely manner through to completion with full development documentation / traceability.
  • Value engineering the company’s product range – quality / cost / design for manufacture.
  • Liaise with all internal departments to ensure collaboration and support are given throughout the design and development process.
  • Liaise with external suppliers / partners to ensure best practice with material selection and processes / development.
  • Complete and oversee functional testing on prototypes, including design of test units and tooling with recorded documentation.
  • Continuous improvement of the design office facility including, processes, procedures, documentation, standards compliance / updates, CAD system and data storage.
  • Adhere to the Company’s policy on Health, Safety and Environment.
  • Operate to company general requirements regarding: Company policies and objectives and Companywide continuous improvement.

About the ideal candidate:

  • Education: A mechanical engineering background in product design. Ideally degree qualified post graduate (Mechanical Engineering / Computational Engineering and Design) with a good knowledge of engineering materials.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years experience in an Engineering Design environment or similar role.
  • Highly motivated person, willing to grow within an emerging market.
  • Technical data analysis.
  • SolidWorks Professional (3D solid modelling).
  • CAD modelling.
  • MS office suite.
  • Problem solving.
  • Teamwork.
  • Ability to create, read and interpret detailed engineering drawings (assembly, detail & BOM).
  • Competent in hand calculation to support software analysis.
  • Experience of Cryogenic materials, Valves, Couplings & Seal Technologies (preferred but not essential.
  • Experience with Hydraulic and Pneumatic components and systems.
