Responsibilities

  • Leads all material related activities assigned in support of APAC strategic vertical markets, supporting APAC customer requests for any material related issues.
  • Initiates and coordinates material research and development activities in alignment of APAC vertical markets technology roadmaps.
  • Converts customer needs to material requirements; researches and develops rubber formulations and modification technologies, designs, and conducts experiments, evaluates test results, to ensure products meet material requirements.
  • Provides differentiated value to our customers by employing scientific fundamentals to innovate and apply the best technical solutions.
  • Drives innovation through the formulation of new materials, coatings, and polymer solutions to tackle industry problems and build new market opportunities.
  • Analyzes / interprets test results and provides recommendations to the team concerning but not limited to material selection, test design, compounding guidelines, molding guidelines, product testing, regulatory needs, and vendor selection.
  • Provides manufacturing support for compounding, prototyping, and molding.
  • Keeps current with local/global industry relevant regulatory needs and collaborates with internal compliance services supporting management of all regulatory requirements.
  • Communicates with vendors and customers in APAC region to resolve material related technical issues.
  • Provides technical support to other APAC organizations and applies sound project management tools.
  • Maintains collaborative technical relationships with material and product development scientists in Europe and North America. This will include, but not restricted to, active participation in Teams meetings of relevant subject matters.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree with 10+ years of relevant experience or MS degree with 13+ years of meaningful experience in the areas of chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, material engineering, or related fields.
  • Must have background in elastomers/rubber compound development or sophisticated material development in a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with elastomers, fillers, and/or reinforced composites.
  • Proficiency in the statistical design and analysis of experimental data.
  • Strong problem solving and data analysis skills; demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be available for 25% travel: domestic and international.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge in rubber chemistry, thermoplastics, physics, performance, Design of Experiment (DOE) and testing.
  • Experience in elastomeric formulation for multifaceted applications.
  • Experience in understanding structure/property relationships in materials.
