Summary of the role:

The Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for leading strategic initiatives toward meeting Trelleborg’s long-term sustainability goals. These initiatives are key in meeting our Science Based Targets (SBTi) to reduce energy consumption and emissions from products manufactured and raw materials sourced. This role is pivotal in our Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) positioning, disclosure, and performance. The Sustainability Program Manager’s leadership responsibilities include managing multiple projects and work packages that aim to enhance our overall environmental performance, reduce waste, improve product circularity, align and partner with key customers in their sustainability objectives and promote sustainable practices across the business unit, including four manufacturing sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sustainability, project management, and a passion for driving positive environmental impact.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Coordinate and oversee multiple sustainability projects and work packages from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to promote sustainability initiatives and gain support for projects.
  • Sustainability Reporting: Develop and maintain sustainability reports, metrics, and dashboards to track progress and communicate results to leadership and relevant parties.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Work with EH&S team to ensure all projects comply with relevant environmental regulations and standards.
  • Innovation and Best Practices: Support the Product Development & Innovation team to research and implement best practices in sustainability and circularity, staying updated with industry trends and advancements.
  • Customer Partnership: Support Marketing and Sales in discovering customer sustainability objectives and identifying projects and processes to better align to those objectives
  • Social Engagement: Support our local community social and development activities. .
  • Training and Development: Conduct sustainability training programs for staff and promote a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in sustainability or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of sustainability practices, environmental regulations, and reporting standards.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with project management software and sustainability reporting tools.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of polymer science and bio-based chemistries.
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Experience with sustainability certifications and frameworks (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001).
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and implement sustainable practices.

This role will require approximately 25% travel - domestic and international.   Role could be located in Rutherfordton, NC or Trelleborg, Sweden.  Relocation assistance available for highly qualified candidates.
