Job Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Estimating Manager, the Engineering Estimator is primarily responsible for providing cost and feasibility analysis to customer inquiries for product produced using a range of materials and processes from the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Aerospace Manufacturing Sites while liaising with the relevant stakeholders (Trelleborg Customer Solution Centers, Design & Application Engineers, and Manufacturing sites within the Aerospace Business Unit). The Estimating Engineer will have responsibility for cost process control, record keeping, and validation of costs as required.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Product Cost Management
- Oversee the estimating process for Make to Print inquiries from receipt of customer request to receipt of order.
- Estimate costs for products and engineering projects based on an analysis of technical requirements, for both Build to Print, and Build to Spec projects.
- Assist Engineering Estimating Manager in establishing quote priorities based on evaluation and analysis of overall opportunity.
- Collect and analyze all project costs including raw materials, labor, equipment and tooling to ensure estimates are accurate.
- Role will interact with costing for Build to Print as well as Build to Spec projects.
- Interfaces with engineering, manufacturing, sales teams, suppliers, and end customers as needed to generate optimum costing proposals.
- Manage centralized quote logs and respective process for all TSS Aerospace Manufacturing sites.
- Updates costs and potential lead time impact as necessary based on new information and scope changes.
- Support supplier meetings and negotiations to challenge quotation prices and aim for cost reduction to meet target costs.
- Conduct periodic cost review exercises post industrialization to validate assumptions and update Global Product Management team on potential changes to assumptions.
Technical Reviews
- Provides information to cross functional teams for feasibility studies and manufacturing NPI acceptance.
- Participate in design reviews and other project related meetings.
- Provide support for Qualification Test Plans, Qualification Test Reports, & FMEA's.
- Develop skills to apply multiple products/processes to a customer problem in order to present the MC's with a complete sealing solution where possible.
System, Reporting, & Training
- Maintain and assign all local site specific “Worldwide Part Numbers” in accordance with TSS standards.
- Participate in monthly review of active inquiries & projects.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required. 2-year or 4-year degree preferred.
- Minimum 3+ years exposure to manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge and understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes and components with the ability to evaluate and analyze associated costs.
- Demonstrated commercial and financial awareness.
- Experience dealing with stakeholders (internal & external) at all business levels.
- Experience within the Aerospace industry preferred.
- Experience with polymer manufacturing preferred.
